KATHMANDU, September 11: The UCPN(Maoist) has decided to show maximum flexibility to persuade the CPN-Maoist led 33-party alliance to take part in the Constituent Assembly (CA) poll and to conduct polls on the scheduled date of November 19.

A meeting of party office-bearers held at party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s residence at Lazimpat on Wednesday, also decided to formally urge the government to amend the interim constitution. [break]

"The party decided to be flexible to the maximum so that the Mohan Baidya-led alliance will participate in the CA election," Chudamani Khadka, personal secretary to Dahal, told Republica. However, he did not specify the level of flexibility to be adopted.

Earlier, talks between the CPN-Maoist led 33-party alliance and the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) foundered over the issues to be discussed at a proposed roundtable conference. HLPC was not ready to discuss any rescheduling of the CA poll or the issue of government change.

The CPN-Maoist, arguing that all issues should be decided by the roundtable, disagreed with the stance of the HLPC.

The UCPN(Maoist) party is, meanwhile, to picket all 75 district administration offices in the country on Friday to pressure the government to release party cadre Ram Prasad Adhikari, who has been arrested for the murder of Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Fujel, Gorkha district.

The party also decided to formally urge the government to amend the constitution to implement agreements reached with the Ashok Rai-led party and the Upendra Yadav-led alliance.
