KATHMANDU, June 2, 2025 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) hosted the inaugural Diplomatic Cup from May 29 to June 1 at Dhuku Futsal, bringing together members of the diplomatic corps, including teams from various embassies, the SAARC Secretariat and MoFA itself, for a friendly futsal tournament aimed at enhancing mutual friendship and cooperation.
The tournament featured several exciting matches, with the UAE Embassy emerging as one of the top performers. They delivered a commanding 5-1 win over the Swiss Embassy, impressing with their energy and coordination. In a closely contested game against the US Embassy, the UAE team played to a 1-1 draw, demonstrating consistency and team spirit.

MoFA said the inaugural event was organized in an effort to foster friendship, mutual understanding, and informal engagement among the diplomatic community. A total of 13 teams representing various diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu, including two teams from MoFA participated in this vibrant and friendly competition.
The final match was held on June 1, marking the successful conclusion of this initiative to promote sports diplomacy and camaraderie.
Organized to foster informal engagement among diplomats through sport, the event received an overwhelmingly positive response. With its successful debut, the Diplomatic Cup is expected to become a regular fixture in Nepal’s diplomatic calendar.
The MoFA has extended appreciation to all teams for their enthusiastic participation and reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging such initiatives that promote unity and collaboration.
