U-19 football team off to Qatar

KATHMANDU: A 23-member U-19 national football team left for Doha, Qatar on Tuesday to compete in the Group A qualifiers for the AFC U-19 Championship to be held there from October 4 to 12.



Raju Kaji Shakya and Kishor KC are the head coach and coach of the team captained by Sulav Maskey. Nepal has sent only 18 players for the tournament though a participating team can include 23 players as per the tournament regulations.[break]



Nepal is pitted against Uzbekistan, Qatar, Turkmenistan and India in the five-team group. Nepal will start its campaign against Turkmenistan on the inaugural day of the championship. The Nepali youth team will face India on October 6, Uzbekistan on October 8 and host Qatar two days later.



The winners of nine groups and the six best runners-up will join host Myanmar in the finals of the competition scheduled for October 2014.
