Two UML cadres seriously injured in Chitwan attack

CHITWAN, Nov 3: Two CPN-UML cadres were reportedly attacked in Chitwan today while they were busy in an election door-to-door program.



According to party district chairman JN Thapaliya, an unidentified gang attacked the party cadres with iron rods and knives. [break]



Party district member Prakash Dhungana and regional member Bishweshwor Neupane have suffered serious injuries on the back in the assault and are undergoing treatment at the Chitwan Medical College.



The incident took place at Sharanpur of Mangalpur-6 under the Chitwan Constituency No. 4 when they were asking for votes for party election candidate Dilkumari Rawal.



Other party cadres who were with Dhungana and Neupane have accused the UCPN (Maoist) cadres of attacking their comrades. The Chitwan Police have said that a search for the assaulters and an investigation into the incident is underway.



Chief District Officer Narendra Raj Sharma said although the attack had happened, it is not yet confirmed whether or not knife was used. We have deputed the security personnel to the incident site for further investigation into the incident, he said.
