RAUTAHAT, Jan 29: District Police Office Rautahat has arrested two youths for their alleged involvement in supplying arms to a jailbird in the Kaski prison.

According to Mahesh Bikram Shah, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Rautahat, Subalal Kushwaha of ward-5 of Hathiyahi VDC and Sailendra Kushwaha of Ward no 7, Bhasedhawa village of the same VDC in the district were arrested on the charge of supplying a pistol and bullets to jailbird Govinda Adhikari. A pistol and two rounds of bullets were recovered from Adhikari last week. According to police, the Kusbaha duo were arrested on the basis of the telephone call details of Rautahat district prison.

SP Shah also informed that the accused along with the motorcycle (Ba 19 Pa 3659) they were using have already been sent to Kaski for further investigation.

Adhikari said that Kuber Pun, a former inmate of Kaski prison who has now been transferred to Rautahat prison, had given him the pistol for safekeeping because Pun was being investigated by police for his alleged role in the Kaski prison clash in November last year. A dozen jailbirds were injured in the clash between two groups of inmates and the jail administration had subsequently transferred Pun to Rautahat.

According to SP Shah, their priliminary investigation has revealed that Pun is an Armed Police Force deserter who had fled with a pistol and a sub-machine gun from Kalika Battalion of the APF two and a half years ago.
