Two killed as a bus carrying students on educational tour meets with accident in Ilam

ILAM, Nov 19:  Two people, including a child, were killed in an accident on their way back from Kanyam in Ilam during an educational visit on Sunday evening.

The ill-fated bus (Na 6 Kha 8424), which was returning from Kanyam in Ilam, met with an accident at Rong Rural Municipality-3 Kolbung in Ilam at around 5 PM.

The bus coming from Dhanushadham municipality-9 of Dhanusha lost control at Kolbung on Mechi highway and fell down about 300 meters from the road. The bus was returning from Kanyam to Dhanusha.

According to the Nepal Police's Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office, Itahari, Arpan Lama, a 12-year-old boy from Dhanushadham Municipality-9 Dharapani, and Tulma Lama, a 40-year-old woman from the same place, died in the accident.

A total of 32 people were injured in the accident. They are all locals of Dharapani.

The driver of the bus, 41-year-old Harigin Raut of Dhanusha, has been arrested by the Area Police Office, Pashupatinagar.

According to police, the condition of 11-year-old Samishka Moktan, 12-year-old Shekhar Moktan, 12-year-old Nirjala Moktan, 36-year-old Anju Lama, 2-year-old Sneharika Lama and 9-year-old Riza Lama who live in the same place injured in the accident is normal.

Others who were injured include 11-year-old Kajal Nayak, 14-year-old Nikisha Moktan, 11-year-old Ritu Lama, 40-year-old Sunmaya Lama, 20-year-old Kabita Ghising, 13-year-old Saugat Lama, 14-year-old Barsha Tamang, 15-year-old Siddhartha Tamang, 17-year-old Swechha Lopchan, 12-year-old Bibisa Moktan, 15-year-old Rosina Tamang and 28-year-old Kalpana Kumari Lama. Similarly, 31-year old Shanta Pakhrin, 18-year old Sandhya Moktan, 35-year old Manavati Lama, 30-year old Gyanu Lama, 18-year old Pratishka Lama and 45-year old Lalkumari are among those injured in the accident.

A 15-year old Karan Moktan, 16-year old Kusum Ghising and 60-year old Shantamaya Tamang, 35-year old Anil Pariyar, 30-year old Rachna Ghising, 35-year old Sanjeev Tamang, 18-year old Renu Ghising and 16-year old Samiksha Lama were also injured in the accident. According to police, the injured are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Jhapa.
