Two killed in police firing during Gen Z protest in Itahari

KATHMANDU, Sep 8: Two people were killed after police opened fire in Itahari, Sunsari during the Gen Z protest.



Police resorted to firing after the protest against the social media ban and corruption turned violent. According to hospital sources, the deceased were men estimated to be 25 and 30 years old. Their identities have not yet been confirmed.

Those who were critically injured by police bullets were taken to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. Police said that the doctors declared them dead upon arrival.


According to Sunsari’s Chief District Officer, Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, police opened fire after the protestors started pelting stones at the Itahari Area Police Office. He said the injured were taken to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for treatment.


Earlier, youths protesting against the government and the social media ban had set fire to the office of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City. After police arrested several youths involved in the arson and took them to the Itahari Area Police Office, protesters began pelting stones, prompting the police to open fire.
