Two killed, 26 injured in Salyan bus accident

DANG, July 10: Two people died and 26 were injured when a bus met with an accident in Salikhola of Salyan on Sunday. 

The bus with registration number Na 4 Kha 5774 veered off the road at Tribeni-5, Sallikhola of Salyan. The bus was heading toward Rukum from Ghorahi of Dang.

According to DSP Shyam Bahadur Khatri of Salyan District Police Office, two people who died on the spot have been identified as Man Bahadur Bihwokarma of Tribeni Rural Municipality-6, Rukum and Sita Ram KC of Chatreshwari Rural Municipality-4. The ill-fated bus plunged some 100 meters below the road while the driver of the bus tried to give way to a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

Police informed that incessant rainfall had weakened the soil leading to caving in of land at various parts of the road due to which the bus fell off the road. “Congested road, weakened land and the vehicle coming from the opposite direction led to the accident,” said DSP Khatri. It has been learnt that the bus was moving in high speed.

Among the 26 who sustained injuries, four were brought to Tulsipur but one of the critically injured was referred to Nepalgunj, while others are being treated in Salyan.
