Two games under ‘A’ Division Football League taking place today

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Two games are taking place today under the ‘A’ Division league football tournament. 


Himalayan Sherpa Club will be meeting the APF Club in the first match while Brigade Boys will play against Signature Manang Marsyangdi Club in the second match to be held at ANFA Complex, Satdobato.

The tournament which formally kicked off on September 29 was halted for the period of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup. It was resumed from Wednesday. 


First round matches under the league are coming to a close today and the league would be postponed for a month during the festival time, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has stated. The second round matches under the league will resume after the Chhath festival on November 13, League director Sanjeev Mishra said. 


The league matches will be held for the thirteen rounds. A total of 91 matches will be played under the tournament to be held on the basis of round league. The team winning the title will go home with a cash prize of Rs 5 million, while the first runner-up will bag Rs 3.5 million and the third will be awarded Rs 2.5 million. 


The team coming the fourth will receive Rs 1.5 million and the teams finishing the fifth and sixth positions will be awarded Rs 700 and 500 thousand, respectively. The team clinching the title of 'fair play team' will go home with Rs 100 thousand. The ANFA is to award the player winning the 'Man of the Match' title Rs 10,000. As stated by league director Mishra, the team clinching the title will progress to the AFC Asian Cup Football. 


The 'A' division league is going to take place after four years. The 14 clubs of ' A' division-- Three Star, Manang Marsyangdi, Nepal Police, APF, Tribhuvan Army, Jawalakhel Youth, Friend Club, Sankata, Machhindra Club, Saraswoti Youth, Chyasal Youth, New Road Team (NRT), Brigade Boys and the Himalayan Sherpa-- have participated in the tournament.
