Two foreigners held from TIA for trying to smuggle gold

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Two foreign nationals have been arrested from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for attempting to smuggle gold. They are Parasnath Shah from India and Mohammad Ullah from Bangladesh. They were apprehended on Monday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Two foreign nationals have been arrested from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for attempting to smuggle gold. They are Parasnath Shah from India and Mohammad Ullah from Bangladesh. They were apprehended on Monday.


According to TIA Security Office Chief Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal, gold weighing around one kilo (936 grams) has been confiscated from the two. They landed at TIA from Dubai on the Himalayan Airlines flight H9566.

Acting on a tip off, the security team approached them for checking that led to the confiscation of the above-mentioned quantity of the yellow metal hidden in their bodies.


The market value of the contraband is around Rs 7.7 million. Police have suspected the involvement of Shah in gold collection as well. They have been handed over to the TIA Customs Office, Gauchar, for further investigations into the case.
