Indian national arrested for smuggling gold in rectum

KATHMANDU, March 22: Police have arrested an Indian national who was trying to smuggle gold by hiding it inside his rectum at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

KATHMANDU, March 22: Police have arrested an Indian national who was trying to smuggle gold by hiding it inside his rectum at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

Bhim Prasad Dhakal, chief of the airport security office, said that 38-year-old Indian citizen Shubham Mehra, was arrested on the basis of special information. Mehra was trying to smuggle 1,268 grams of gold, whose value is stated to be Rs 18.49 million.


Mehra had arrived in Kathmandu from Dubai on a Nepal Airlines flight and was taken under control from the tunnel gate of TIA after he looked suspicious. According to the police, he was handed over to the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office for necessary investigation and action.
