POKHARA, May 11: Two female volleyball players in Pokhara-Lekhnath Metropolitan City have announced their support for Nepali Congress in the local level elections slated for May 14.

Manju Gurung and Sipora Gurung, two volleyball players, are taking part in  the election campaign launched by Nepali Congress in Lekhnath- Metropolitan City urging voters to cast their votes in favor of Nepali Congress.

Ramji Kunwar and Saraswoti Gurung are contesting from Pokhara-Lekhnath Metropolitan City as mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates respectively representing Nepali Congress.

However, their allegiance to Nepali Congress seems to be driven by something other than ideological factor.

The duo attribute their decision to vote for Nepali Congress to their close relation with Saraswoti Gurung who fielded her candidacy as deputy mayor.

“It is the first time I am involved in election campaign. I preferred going to the field to making negative comments about political parties on social media with a view to understanding the ground reality”, said Sipora.

“It is not true that we decided to support a particular party. We are partaking in the election campaign with a view to ensuring the victory of our sister who loves us very much”, said Manju
