KATHMANDU, April 6: Two people died and one person was seriously injured when a speeding truck collided head-on with a pickup van along the Kalanki-Koteshwar section of the Ring Road in Lalitpur on Friday morning.
Seriously injured Indra Bahadur Sunuwar, 40, of Dolakha who was the driver of the van, and van passenger Dolma Sherpa, 40, of Bhaisepati, Lalitpur died at Alka Hospital in Lalitpur in the course of treatment, according to police.

Another van passenger Smriti Magar, 18, of Dhanusha, who was also seriously injured during the accident, is currently receiving medical treatment at Mediciti Hospital at Bhaisepati. The accident had taken place at 10.55 am.
Police said Magar sustained serious injuries to her face and legs and is unable to speak.
It has been found out that the truck (Na 1 Gha 533) belongs to the Janak Education Materials Center. The MPRO, Lalitpur has detained the truck driver Radheshyam Budhathoki, 51, of Madhyapur Municipality-1, Bhaktapur, and kept him in custody at Metropolitan Police Office, Sanepa.
“The accident took place in a bend. We have learnt that the truck was in high speed,” spokesperson of the MPRO, Superintendent of Police (SP) Durga Singh told Republica. The van was badly damaged in the accident.
Police informed Republica that truck driver Budhathoki had voluntarily surrendered to police. Budhathoki will be presented at the district court on Sunday where he will face charges of murder.
