Turmoil continues in Birendranagar following death of two children

BIRENDRANAGAR, Oct 1: Birendranagar, the capital of Karnali Province, has been in turmoil since Sunday morning over the issue of the death of two children. In response to these incidents, the relatives of the deceased children have resorted to vandalism, resulting in damage to the hostel and setting fire to the Usha Bal Vatika Secondary School.

Since Sunday morning, the relatives of the deceased children have been staging protests in the central market areas of Mangalgadhi and Yerichowk, leading to the closure of shops and disruptions in traffic. The turmoil in Birendranagar intensified following the separate deaths of two children who hailed from Dailekh. The affected families have jointly announced a movement for investigation into both incidents.

As a result of the protests, local shops and markets have shut down, and traffic along the main road has come to a standstill. Local youth who tried to stop the protest on Sunday morning were beaten up by the protestors.

The relatives said that they haven’t felt that the local administration is conducting an investigation regarding the case. Salam Pulami Magar, an eight-year-old student studying in Grade 2, hailing from Chamunda Bindrasaini Municipality-1 of Dailekh died under suspicious circumstances at the hostel.

Similarly, on Saturday morning, a five-year-old boy, Tukdarshan Giri, who lived in Dailekh's Aathabis Municipality, died in a motorcycle collision and the police have not been able to locate the motorcyclist and the motorcycle until now.

The police have said that the hostel manager and principal of the school were detained on Saturday and are currently under investigation.
