Trinity faced a tough competition from Unique in the quarterfinals but were able to secure a berth for the semifinals with a score of 51-48.
Trinity were well ahead in the first quarter with 14-7 but lagged behind in the second quarter 12-14. Trinity were back in form to defeat Unique 15-10 in the third quarter. Trinity trailed behind in the last quarter 10-17 but their total score was above that of Unique by a narrow margin. Although Jenish Thapaliya scored the highest 21 points during the match for Unique, they ran short of three points to make it through to the semifinals.
In another match, Pentagon qualified for the semifinals as their opponents Xavier International gave a walk-over.
Meanwhile, defending champions Golden Gate and Revolvers have already qualified for the semifinals.
Golden Gate will face Pentagon in the first semifinal match on Wednesday at St Xavier´s School while Trinity will take on Revolvers in the second semifinal. The final match is scheduled for Thursday.
Whitehouse, Prime win titles
KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The girls´ team of Whitehouse and the boys´ team of Prime claimed the titles of Gyan Carnival Inter College Basketball Tournament organized by Gyanodaya College and sponsored by Professional Education Consultancy on Tuesday.
Whitehouse defeated Orient 21-14 in the girls´ final held on the premises of Gyanodaya on Tuesday. Alisha Malla and Sajani Tamang scored the highest seven points each for Whitehouse.
Meanwhile, the defending champions Prime College edged out Whitehouse in the boys´ final at the Dasharath Stadium. Ketan Khadka contributed the highest 17 points for Prime.
Ketan Khadka and Whitehouse´s Mrinalini were declared the most valuable players in boys´ and girls´ category respectively.
