CHITWAN, Sept 27: Transport entrepreneurs shut down vehicular movement in western parts of Chitwan district to pressure authorities to repair Bharatpur-Golghat road.

They maintain that the government has not repaired the road that links Bharatpur with Golghar through Rampur for long despite repeated requests.[break]

Vehicles plying in the route stayed off the road from early morning today due to the strike. Transporters say they would resort to more strikes if the demand is not fulfilled.

"We will even call an indefinite strike," said joint-secretary of Western Route Management Committee Prakash Tamang.

Transport workers also staged a sit-in protest in front of the Chitwan District Developmetn Committee.

Local Development Officer Uddhav Prasad Timilsena said an agreement to repair the road has already been made with local parties. "Repair will begin from today," he added.
