“Though the price has increased as compared to the last season, we are expecting a good business," said Durgalal Shrestha, president of Trans-Himalayas Trade Association. [break]
At present, about 50 importers and more than 5,000 wholesalers and retailers are involved in the business of Chinese goods. Everyday, more than 60 containers carrying Chinese goods enter Nepal.
Bharat Karki, a wholesaler of Chinese goods, said he was importing shoes worth Rs 20 million this Dashain. Nepali traders import goods mostly from Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu, among others.
Readymade garments and shoes are goods that are mostly in demand during the festive season. “The sale of jeans pants and T-shirt is quite impressive. We are also getting strong demands for apparels for kids,” Keshav Rayamajhi, the importer of Chinese goods, said.
He informed that the price of Chinese T-shirt varies between Rs 50 and Rs 600, while shoes are available in the range of Rs 150 to Rs 10,000.
Rayamajhi said they had started preparation for Dashain two weeks ago. “The number of traders and containers on Nepal-China border at Kodari has increased remarkably in recent days,” he added. Commenting on the quality of Chinese goods, Rayamajhi said the quality depends on price.
Unlike other stores, most of the retailers of Chinese goods said they had not plan to announce discounts or other offers as their products are priced reasonably as compared to other imported goods. However, some of them said they were planning 5 to 10 percent discount.
