Toxic mushroom toll reaches 7

CHITWAN, June 4: One more has breathed last, among those sick after consuming poisonous wild mushroom in Kanda village of Lothhar of eastern Chitwan.



Purna Bahadur Praja, 23, who was being treated in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Bharatpur hospital, died Friday morning at 2 AM, according to District Police Office.[break]



Earlier, six members of a family had lost their lives for consuming poisonous mushroom picked from the nearby forest.



Another member of Praja family, Jit Bahadur, 20, who was also in critical condition after consuming mushroom, is undergoing treatment in Patan Hospital, said a local teacher Bal Krishna Thapaliya.



Members of Praja households of remote Kanda village had to loose their lives due to the lack of facilities for timely treatment. They were taken to hospital only after 48 hours they fell sick.



Kanda can be reached after an eight-hour long walk from the highway.
