KATHMANDU, Sept 17: Chief Cricket Coach of Bangladesh Institute of Sports (BKSP) Masud Hasan said that a tournament is a strong basis to identify players, not training sessions.
Hasan who is in Nepal to instruct the cricketers at Great Himalaya Cricket Academy (GHCA) said that the players can learn only theoretical aspects in trainings so they need to play enough tournaments in order to know their actual level and the weaknesses.
Speaking in the interaction organized by GHCA in the capital, Hasan said, “It is necessary to find out weaknesses of players and teach them to execute new techniques. And then players have to be watched closely to find how the techniques are executed.”
Kohli's India need to win big tournaments, says Ganguly
He said these things can be effectively done with the help of tournaments only.
Hasan who has been serving in Bangladesh’s national sports institute for the last 20 years, arrived in Nepal on September 7 and will remain here until Monday.
More than 50 players are being trained by Hassan at GHCA.
“There are so many top young potentials in Nepal but they must be given proper platforms to give continuity to their development. The role of Cricket Association is crucial in such cases,’’ said Hasan.
GHCA’s President Sudip Acharya said that his organization was established with a target of producing top players.
He said he invited Hasan with a view to identify the problems as their efforts to produce top players weren’t yielding satisfying results.
“This is a different approach and we will send coaches to BKSP for coaching sessions. If we can implement the things they learn there, we can get good results in near future,’’ said Acharya.
