Tourism Minister Adhikari cremated with state honors

POKHARA, March 1: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari has been cremated with state honors at Ramghat, Pokhara.

A squad of Nepal Army offered salutes to Adhikari in state honors while bidding adieu to him as per the cabinet’s decision. His eldest son Biraj Adhikari lit the funeral pyre.

The funeral processon for Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari reached Ramghat on the bank of Seti River, Pokhara. Thousands of people including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Ishwor Pokharel, secretariat members of Nepal Communist Party Bamdev Gautam and Narayan Kaji Shrestha took part during the funeral ceremony. 

The procession had begun from the Exhibition Center, Pokhara, where Adhikari’s mortal remains had been kept for condolences. Thousands of people including NCP leaders, leaders from other political parties, well wishers, kin and relatives had paid their tributes to Adhikari at the Center. Earlier, Minister Pokharel had draped a national flag over the body of Adhikari while Gautam and Shrestha draped the party’s flag.

The procession had passed through Mahendra Bridge-Ranipauwa from Naya Bazaar via the Regional Hospital road before it reached Ramghat.

Adhikari’s mortal remains had been taken to Pokhara from Tribhuvan International Airport after being kept at Tundikhel where thousands of heartbroken people had paid tributes to the chopper crash victims this morning.

Meanwhile, the other four bodies of those killed in a chopper crash on Wednesday were also cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat in the capital this afternoon.
