UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Bijay Gachchhadar, among other leaders, said it was now time to implement the deal without any distortion and delay.[break]
Speaking at the parliament meeting, Dahal said the Maoists and the leaders from other parties reached the agreement as they had learnt lessons from the past.
“This is probably the last opportunity. If we fail to implement the agreement this time around, we will be faced with a very difficult situation ahead,” said Dahal.
Admitting that the leaders had deviated from the right course, the Maoist chairman said they were back on the right track. “We have now come full circle since the signing the historic 12-point Comprehensive Peace Agreement,” said Dahal. “We now have no time to waste.” He also assured that the intra-party rift in the UCPN (Maoist) wouldn´t hinder implementation of the deal.
Leader of the main opposition Paudel called on all the political parties and the government for sincere implementation of the deal. “We have bitter experiences when it comes to implementing the accords. And this time we can´t afford to repeat history,” said Paudel.
UML Chairman Khanal urged all concerned not to forget the November 23 deadline to implement the deal. “We must make tangible progress by November 23 so as to advance the peace process as envisioned in the seven-point deal,” Khanal said.
Also, Gachchhadar stressed on the need for creating strong grounds for the enforcement of the deal.
While the leaders exchanged greetings and thanked each other for the deal, most of the leaders extended special thanks to Dahal for taking a bold decision despite stiff opposition from within his own party.
