Top leaders visit Gadhimai fair, security under pressure

The daily influx of dignitaries performing pujas and participating in the fair has posed significant challenges to security management.

BARA, Dec 6:  High-ranking dignitaries from across the country have been visiting the Gadhimai Temple area in Bariyarpur, Maha Gadhimai Municipality, Bara since the start of the Gadhimai fair on November 16. They have been visiting the temple over the past weeks to observe the Mela, which is held once every five years. 


The daily influx of dignitaries performing pujas and participating in the fair has posed significant challenges to security management.

Vice President Ram Sahaya Yadav, Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka, and other prominent leaders have visited the temple to offer prayers and observe the event.


Chief District Officer of Bara, Basanta Adhikari, said that high-ranking dignitaries are visiting the temple daily to perform rituals and assess the status of the fair. “The Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and other prominent figures have visited the temple to gather information about the fair,” he said.


To manage security, 2,000 personnel have been deployed at the Gadhimai Temple. The special Gadhimai puja, known for traditional animal sacrifices, is scheduled for December 8-9, during which devotees traditionally offer cows, goats, chickens, geese, and pigeons as sacrifices to fulfill their wishes.
