RUPANDEHI, July 17:Tilottama Municipality of Rupandehi has been declared plastic bag-free zone.
Member of House of Representatives (HoR), Ghanshyam Bhusal, today declared Tilottama municipality as 'plastic bag-free zone' at a programme where people's representatives of the municipality, political parties and social organisations, among others, were present.

On the occasion, HoR member Bhusal expressed the belief that the Nepal would be plastic bag free country as plastic free campaign is the matter of national importance. Saying beginning a campaign to make plastic-free zone from Tilottama was the matter of happiness at a time when plastic has become a harm for human health, he laid emphasis that other municipalities should follow this.
Similarly, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment of state 5, Leela Giri, said the use of plastic bags in the municipality has reduced with the beginning of the campaign. The municipality had launched plastic bag prohibition campaign from April 14, 2018. It has also banned plastic cups, plates and spoon along with plastic bags, said Mayor Basudev Ghimire.
The municipality has been urging to use bags manufactured from other cloth as well as other things as the alternative to the plastic bags. Different organisations, cooperatives, have been distributing bags made from cloths to the locals at the request of the municipality. (Photo available)
