We aren’t going to tell you to drink water, exercise or meditate in the morning. We are sure you already know how essential they are for your physical and mental wellbeing. Instead, these morning rituals that we swear by will change the way you function on a daily basis and look at life in general.

Make a to-do list
After you have done what you normally do upon waking up, sit down with a cup of tea and write down all the things you need to get done that day. Try to prioritize but write down even the smallest of tasks like picking up laundry or taking your weekly vitamin supplements. There’s something very satisfying about crossing tasks off a to-do list that makes you productive and power through your day. You are also much likely to do things when they are written down as opposed to them being vague ideas in your head. This is a very practical thing you can do in the morning that will set the right tone for the rest of your day and ensure you get a lot done.

Practice gratitude
Feeling gratitude and appreciation for those little signs and moments of joy in your life is a perfect morning ritual to start your day on a positive note. The real power of gratitude is that it makes you pick out and focus on what is working in your life. It reinforces happiness and positivity by making you focus on the good things, small or big. It’s human nature to crib about what’s going wrong in our lives but taking a moment to appreciate the good things and feeling grateful for it can really shift your mindset and make you tackle your day with optimism. Every day, write down three things you were grateful for the day before or at that moment and try to be specific.

Listen to uplifting music
Many people wake up to music or listen to music as they are getting ready or commuting to work. But most tune in to a radio or randomly select a playlist. Being more conscious of what you listen to in the morning can have a great impact on your day and life in general. Try to listen to more uplifting music in the morning even if, or especially if, your mood does not dictate so, for it will charge you emotionally. Scientists have found that songs with heavy bass (hard rock and hip-hop) inspire feelings of power, and produce a surge of confidence and more complex conceptual thought – a perfect start to any day.
