Three federal govt ministers reach Sindhuli to assess damages in flood-hit areas

KAMALAMAI (SINDHULI), Oct 8: Three ministers from the federal government have reached Sindhuli to take stock of the situation of the flood-affected areas.


A team comprising Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal and Minister for Defence Manbir Rai, and other government officials arrived in Khurkot on Tuesday morning.

They observed the site of the Khurkot bridge connecting Sindhuli and Ramechhap that was swept away by the swollen Sunkoshi river as well as the flood-ravaged Khurkot Bazaar area. The Nepali Army has already initiated preliminary works on restoring the 51-meter-long Bailey bridge towards Ramechhap and opening it for vehicular traffic. 


The ministers engaged in discussions with the local level people’s representatives, Chief District Officer Lila Prasad Sharma, chief of the District Police Office, Superintendent of Police Govinda Raj Kafley and the locals regarding the loss and damage caused by the flooding and landslides, the immediate reconstruction of the road infrastructure, and rescue and relief activities.


The ministers are scheduled to also visit Chautara of Sindhupalchowk later on Tuesday.
