RAUTAHAT, Nov 24: At least three protesters were injured after police opened fire and baton-charged infuriated locals protesting against the ‘rape’ and murder of a minor from Bardibas Municipality-14 in Mahottari district.

The injured have been identified as Sanjay Neupane and Shyam Karki, residents of Bardibas Municipality-1, and Aftab Alam, of Bardibas-14. Police opened fire after the protesters started to pelt stones at the house of the accused murderer.

As the situation was going out of control, police opened fire and baton-charged the protesters. The injured are receiving treatment at the Bardibas-based Pinnacle Hospital, according to police.

The dead body of six-year-old girl Gulab Shah Khatun, who was kidnapped from Bardibas-14 of Mahottari district, was found on Monday evening.

Khatun, the daughter of Shahid Aalam, had gone missing on Sunday evening. The dead body of the minor was recovered from Bardibas-14, packed in a sack, according to Mahottari Police Chief, Superintendent of Police (SP), Tika Bahadur KC.

Although the locals claim that the minor was raped and murdered, police say it has started investigation to confirm whether it is a case of rape and murder. “We are waiting for the post mortem report,” said SP KC.

In the meantime, police apprehended Arun Kumar Shah, 25, of Gaushala-5 on the charge of the murder on Monday evening. SP KC shared that the accused Shah has confessed to the killing.
