KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Nepal has banned two Indian climbers and their team leader from mountaineering for six years for stunting their Everest summit in the 2016 spring season. The ban will be effective starting May 20, 2016.  

Indian nationals Narendra Singh and Seema Rani had faked their Everest summit in 2016. As a result, they have been banned from carrying out any expeditions in the country for six years. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said that they will be banned from ascending any mountain in Nepal.

The Ministry on Wednesday scrapped the certificate presented to them by the Department of Tourism. Naba Kumar Phukon, who led the team to Everest, has also been banned for six years starting May 20, 2016.  

Similarly, Seven Summit Treks Pvt Ltd, the travel agency through which the climbers had carried out the expedition, has been fined Rs 50,000.   

Dawa Sherpa, a climbing helper has also been slapped with a fine of Rs 10,000 for forging the documents for the climbers.
