Three including ACCI chairperson arrested during press conference

KAILALI, July 4: Police on Wednesday arrested three persons including the chairperson of Attariya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) on the charge of attempting to foil the third municipal assembly of Godawari Municipality a week ago.

Chairperson of ACCI Ashok Devkota and other two were attending a press conference at ACCI hall on Wednesday morning when they were arrested. 

On June 25, Godawari had organized its third municipal assembly when the arrestees had apparently tried to foil the third municipal assembly of Godawari Municipality on June 25 by breaking the microphone and cutting its wire.

A complaint was filed against eight individuals for disrupting the program. Following the complaint, police had intensified search for them. 

Acting on a tip off, a team of police from the Area Police office (APO), Malakheti, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gyan Bahadur Bista had reached the ACCI building.

The arrestees had organized the conference to make clarifications. ACCI members Bipin Kumar Saud and Dinesh Bista were also arrested in the incident. All three of them are under custody of the District Police Office (DPO), Kailali and police have forwarded legal action against them.

Local entrepreneurs along with Devkota had attempted to disrupt the municipal assembly stating their disappointment for not being provided the opportunity to express their views in the municipal assembly that concluded on June 25. 

The municipality has also filed complaint against ACCI secretary Shankar Khadka, member Rabindra Khanal, local entrepreneur Rajendra Bogati, Keshav Nyonyal and Mohan Pathak at the DPO, Kailali.

Strike imposed in Attariya following the arrest of ACCI chairperson venting their ire against the arrests of chairperson and members of ACCI, local entrepreneurs imposed a strike in Attariya on Wednesday. According to them, the arrestees were just trying to speak for their rights in the municipal assembly but they were prohibited from doing so. They say it was wrong to arrest ACCI members amidst a press conference.
