Constable Chandra Bahadur Karki, personnel Dhruba Narayan Tajpuriya and Nirmal Magar have been asked to furnish a clarification as part of the departmental action, the DPO stated.
On August 19, a police patrolling team led by Sub Inspector (SI) Kamal Karki had spotted an axis deer (Cheetal) with a leg injury by the local Seuti River. Instead of rescuing the wildlife, the police team was reported to have coerced a local resident to carry it to his house on a motorcycle, and had butchered the animal there.
The police team comprising including SI Karki, Assistant sub-inspectors Ganesh Shrestha and Durga Limbu, Constable Chandra Karki, and personnel Gyan Bahadur Basnet, Raj Kumar Shrestha, Nirmal Magar and Pasang Tamang were blamed of having 7 kilograms of venison.
However, the probe team failed to obtain any solid evidence to prove all of them guilty during the investigation. The report blamed the guilty policemen of not executing their duties duly.
As The National Park and Wild Life Conservation Act-1973, the convicts of killing wild animal for the purpose of meat will face a fine up to Rs 10,000 or face imprisonment up to two years or both.
