KATHMANDU, Dec 12: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said there are many reasons for investors to invest in different sectors of Nepal.


Following a discussion with development partners held in the Finance Ministry on Monday in relation to the 3rd Investment Summit scheduled for coming April 21 and 22 in Kathmandu, Finance Minister Mahat said hydropower, tourism, information technology, and agriculture are best sectors for investment in the country.


"One can invest in small and middle-scale enterprises. There is immense potential for investment in Nepal. The government has been working seriously to remove any hurdles seen in the sector of investment', he said.

On the occasion, discussion was held with development partners on how to make the investment summit effective and result-oriented.


The Finance Minister further said there was discussion about what types of the goals and objectives should be adopted based on the experiences of development partners.


"A Bill related to Anti-Money Laundering would be passed from the parliament soon. We will complete the Sovereign Credit Rating of Nepal before the investment summit. We are engaged to remove all types of problems and challenges", he added.


Similarly, Chief Secretary Dr Baikuntha Aryal stressed that there were policy-level and procedural reforms for receiving investment as per the investors' commitment.


The government has accelerated internal preparations to host the third investment summit, he mentioned.


A Steering Committee under coordination of the Finance Minister has been formed to organize the investment summit as well as an implementation committee led by the Chief Secretary and Technical Committee under coordination of the Secretary of Industry, Commerce and Supply Ministry.
