On the eve of Friendship Day (it's on Sunday!), we had a few friends write a brief letter to their friend(s). Genuine thank yous, reminisces of fond memories, sincere apologies...these little letters celebrate friendship in all its colors.Dear Gaurab,
It's been 10 years since I last met you but the memories of us playing in the backyards, fooling around are as fresh as yesterday. From playing marbles on the main street of Paknajol to shooting geese in the latest consoles, we were always together. I remember being 7th in the three legged race with you; still giggling at times for no reason looking back at it. We'd laughed and cried together, we'd beaten up bullies together and at times beaten up each other as well—the WWF style! For years, I've been cherishing those moments. I hope we don't take another decade to relieve and remember those moments together again. Should catch up soon man!

Dear Rayjon,
I still remember how big and chubby you were back when we were classmates in Class V and VI. It was indeed great fun playing silly games including 'alu-plus' and Hangman. I also remember exchanging pencils, pens and erasers as the winning 'trophy' of the game. The verses of the Bengali song you'd sing on my request occasionally tunes even these days.
Remember the day I fell off the staircase and got my arms wounded while you leaned on me trying to put on your shoes? I know it was an accident. However, thank you for being such a caring friend who copied down all the class notes on my book for me.
Although we never admitted to be best friends, I believe we were close enough to receive the title. Unfortunately, our friendship didn't last long as you left the school in Class VII. Except a few conversations over the phone, we neither managed to meet nor speak after that. And, after it was saddening to learn that you met with an accident and left the world a few years back. Anyways, a bucketful of thanks for all those childhood memories, my friend!

Dear Asmi,
You'd probably kill me after seeing this, but well you live far, far away in the US, so calm down girly. I'm writing this to thank you for making my life awesome just by being there. You probably hadn't realized but you directly and indirectly brought so many good things in my life along with your friendship. Thank you for bringing books to my life and introducing me to libraries! For those dirty gallies (with pigeon poops pouring on my head and your bottle of mineral water to clean it for me) that held the best mo:mos, samosas, pavbhajis and second hand book shops. For Dan Brown, Sidney Sheldon and Mills & Boons. For those Korean movies and up to nine pages long handwritten letters to pen friends! For introducing me to my soul mate Keanu Reeves. And most of all, for encouraging me to volunteer. You inspire me, Asmi, and I'm forever thankful.
PS: I didn't know Anderson Cooper was gay. I just said that to irk you out. I was equally devastated as you were when he came out of the closet.
Yours,
Smita
Dear Manisha,
You've been a very special part of my life and I'd like to take this opportune moment to thank you for being there for me. Friends for 10 years, I'm so glad to have you as my colleague, too. Since your office is just above mine, I get so many opportunities to share coffee and secrets with you. Thank you, darling, for being there in my ups and downs and supporting me in my endeavors. Thank you for always bringing a souvenir for me (even if not for anyone else) from all your international tours. For all those moments we got drunk (well mostly me, you have an amazing stamina, lady!). And I guess I owe you an apology for all those lies I built up when you asked me to go somewhere (I wasn't really that busy). You deserve a lot better friend and I promise to try to be that friend for you. Meanwhile, you know how proud I am of what you've been doing. Keep doing that no matter what others say. Love you girl.

Dear Alisha,
As much as I'd like to meet you on this special day, distance remains a barrier. When I come to think of how much you mean to me, the words, that have been the most basic means of conveying feelings, fail me. When I was in boarding school where the only means of communication were e-mails, I'd write long emails to you every once in a while and when either one of us replied, the first line would read: "You idiot, your mail made me cry." To be honest you know more about me than anyone in my family does. I've had you by my side on the most important, happiest, worst and all kinds of days in my life. Even today, when I need to confide in someone, I know that you're just a message or call away. I miss you. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you and to remind you of how much you mean to me.
Yours,
Nishi
Dear Saroj and Mahesh,
First, allow me to apologize for not being able to draw time for our meets. We all got busy with our lives and somehow lost our touch. I, however, should confess that I did make pretext of having something important to do while you guys planned for a hangout, but then the lie wasn't too far away from truth. I keep having one work or the other. Anyway, enough of apologies.
Through this letter, I would like to thank you for being there for 10 years and more. For all the fun things that we do together. We definitely should find time for our friendship, which is way too special to just let go. Also, I guess I should let you know that although I enjoy meeting you both, I feel that I'm able to better connect if we meet individually, at least during certain occasions.

To my dear girls,
It seems like only yesterday when we first met, but look, it's been more than 8 years now! All through the mayhem and hustle, I guess I never got an opportunity to say 'thank you' for being there in all my ups and downs; for that special Goa trip and for endless gossips. I guess I also owe you guys for straightening me up and keeping my feet on the ground. It would be a horror if you guys let me fly up in the air. Most of all, thank you for being there in the music video of 'Yo Chhoriko Roopai Raamro' which would not have been as special if you guys hadn't been there. And you guys were such good actors! Damn...
Most of you are married now and you don't have so much time for gossips and sleepovers. So I wish we still found some time for each other. And later, when we grow old, I hope we go to kitty parties like classy women! Remember?
Yours,
Shreya
