KATHMANDU, Oct 11: Laxman Tharu, the chairman of the Federal Democratic National Party (FDNP), who was arrested red-handed with a prostitute on Sunday morning, has been remanded for 15 days on a public offense charge.

Police had arrested Tharu in a compromising situation with a 20-year-old sex worker during a raid at a guesthouse at Bagbazar on Sunday.

The District Administration Office (DAO) put him under a longer remand to allow police investigation. “Due to Dashain vacation, DAO gave the longer remand,” an investigative official at Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu said. “His Dashain could be spent in police custody.”

The ex-Maoist combatant had come to prominence during the Tharuhat movement against the Madhesi parties´ uprising for ´One Madhes One Pradesh´ a few years ago.
