Thapa wins triathlon gold in China

KATHMANDU, May 20: Tika Ram Thapa clinched gold for Nepal in the 2013 Chizou ITU Premium Asian Cup Triathlon held in China on May 18 and 19. According to a press statement issued by Nepal Triathlon Association on Monday, Thapa completed the sprint (750m swimming + 20 km bike race + 5 km race) with a timing of 1 hour 12 minutes 15.54 seconds in the 20-29 years age group to win the title.



With the victory, Thapa also qualified for the CTSA level certificate of China Triathlon Association as his timing met the minimum requirements for the certificate. Likewise, another Nepali athlete Sahaj Shakya secured seventh position in the junior section as he successfully completed the sprint (750m swimming +20 km bike race +5 km race) on Sunday.
