KATHMANDU, May 24: A teacher of St Lawrence College located in Chabahil, Kathmandu, has been accused of molesting a girl student of class 11.
The students of the college have come together and staged a demonstration outside the college premises on Tuesday morning after the victim made public the incident of being repeatedly molested by the social studies teacher and coordinator of the morning session of St Lawrence College, Janardan Adhikari. The victim girl student has accused him of molesting her for three consecutive months. Students staged a sit-in on the school premises and gate demanding immediate action against the teacher.
The victim had informed the college administration and her family about the incident after facing mental stress due to the teacher.

“The perpetrator had repeatedly offered the victim to be his 'sex partner,” one of the victim’s classmates told Republica. According to the classmates, the teacher had proposed the victim to become his sex partner, stating that he was not satisfied with his wife and even offered to find a separate room for her.
According to the victim's classmate, the teacher had threatened to expel her from the college if she told her parents or the college administration about getting harassed by the teacher.
“The teacher had also been harassing our senior girls in the past. The incident only came to light after our friend could not take the stress anymore. If the college’s administration does not take any strict action against such people, how can we feel safe here,” the victim’s classmate said.
According to Principal Purushottam Maharjan of the college, the accused teacher was expelled from the college as soon as the college administration was informed about the incident.
This incident has come into light following a video clip in which a victim spoke out against getting raped over eight years ago, when she was just 16. The incident has also sparked a huge movement with people demanding the expansion of statute of limitation and other rules and regulation to give justice to victims of rape and other sexual assaults.
Along with the mentioned incident, victims of such incidents have started making public the incidents of abuse against them. The issue of rape, sexual harrasmnent and molestation are being taken seriously. Even lawmakers are pushing for an extension of the rape registration deadline. The issue is being discussed regularly in both the Houses of Representatives and the National Assembly.
