MAHOTTARI, June 21: Temporary school teachers across Mahottari on Monday staged sit-in in front of Jaleshwar-based District Education Office (DEO), demanding amendment to the recently revised Education Act.
Recently, the parliament has approved an eighth amendment to the Education Act-1972.
Agitating temporary school teachers in the district have demanded among other things amendment to the act so that the temporary teachers can be made permanent automatically.
Work at the DEO was affected due to the sit-in and sloganeering.
“We'll continue our protest until the eighth amendment to the act is not revised to incorporate our demands,” Radheshyam Jha, a member of Temporary Teachers Struggle Committee, said.
The agitating teachers have been protesting various demands at different stages since last one week.
According to the DEO, there are a total of 265 temporary teachers in Mahottari.
Meanwhile, District Education Officer Thulo Babu Dahal, who interacted with the agitating teachers, told them that their demands cannot be met from the local level.
DEO Dahal, however, assured the agitating teachers that he would convey their demands to the higher authorities in Kathmandu.
