Bir Bahadur Tamang, 17, on Friday admitted to the Nuwakot police that he killed his sister Santumaya Tamang, 14, on June 12. According to Bir Bahadur´s statement to the police, he was extremely angry after his father refused to pay for his citizenship certificate and passport. He then planned to kill everyone in his family. Police had arrested Bir Bahadur from Balaju of Kathmandu on Thursday.
Bir Bahadur wanted to apply for recruitment in the British Army. As many of the youths in his village were applying for recruitment in the British Army, he did not want to miss the opportunity.
“I was angry with my parents but they made me go mad after my father refused to pay for my citizenship certificate and passport,” said Bir Bahadur. He said he first killed his sister as he was fed up with her as she had been having illicit relationships with several boys in the village.
On the day of the murder, Bir Bahadur had reached home in the evening in a drunken state and asked his mother to light his cigarette. “When I saw my sister I lost control over my senses and asked her to come to me to a nearby forest. There I killed her in the dark” said Bir Bahadur.
Santumaya was attacked with a khukuri, said Police Inspector Kusan Kumar Basnet.
