BIRATNAGAR, March 5: A 15-year-old girl was killed in Morang.

Gyanu Kumari Rai, who was studying at the house of Binod Rai, her maternal uncle's son, at Lamatol, Pathari Shanishchare Municipality-7, was killed.

The girl's house is at Aiselukharka-6 in Khotang. She was living in her brother's house for two years and was studying in class 7 at Panchayat Secondary School in Pathri.

Binod runs a local eatery. She was studying while helping him at the shop.

According to the police, on Monday at 10:30 PM, while going from the room to the toilet, she was struck on the neck with a sharp weapon. Morang Police Spokesperson DSP Ranjan Kumar Dahal said that she died on the spot.

According to the police, there is a toilet outside the house where she lived. Morang Police Spokesperson DSP Dahal said that it was revealed during the preliminary investigation that the murder had occurred while she was going from the room to the toilet. The reason behind the murder and the identity of those involved have not been revealed yet.

"She came out at night to go to the toilet. People in the house were awake after hearing her cry. The toilet was inside a tin-wrapped compound at the back of the house," said Dahal.

After hearing the girl crying, the members of the house informed the police when they saw her running outside. "After hearing the girl crying, the family members came out and saw her writhing with pain near the toilet," he said adding, "She died while the family members were informing the police about the incident.”

The police said that it seems like the murder was planned. "At the moment we don’t know who is behind the murder," said Dahal, "But we are investigating in detail."

According to police sources, the girl's murder may have been due to a love affair. "It seems that as soon as she came out, she was attacked," the police source said, "It seems that an acquaintance is behind the incident."

Dahal said that the scope of the investigation has been broadened as the cause of the incident could also be a love affair. "During the investigation, that matter has also come up in the course of our investigation. However, nothing can be said for sure at the moment," he said.
