Teachers' strike closes schools for 8 days

LAHAN, May 14: Schools have remained closed in Lahan for eight days after the teachers’ union declared a strike on May 7.



The teachers´ union has demanded that those who smeared soot on the face of the District Education Officer of Saptari, Kedar Tiwari, be taken in custody.

The strike has affected the studies of 200,000 students as 357 schools in the area have remained closed. On May 6, service seekers smeared soot on Tiwari claiming he was not in his office during office time.


According to Chief District Officer of Saptari, Rambilash Rai, the union has refused to come and sit for talks even after repeated requests.
