Three teachers, who are among 39 people accused of the murder of Sakur Miya in 2003 during a clash between two groups at Janaki Tole, were receiving their monthly salaries from the district education office.[break]
Principal of Ram Janaki Primary School at Bajbaniya, Badshah Sah, Hariom Prasad Yadav of Nera Primary School and Aamod Prasad Yadav of Naugawa Secondry School have been absconding since the murder incident. However, they were receiving their salaries regularly from the DEO.
According to locals, the accused teachers have been living in a bordering Indian village and visiting their homes incognito to evade arrest.
Sah, though absconding, kept up attendance at his office as aides used to bring the attendance register to his hideout at Inarwa. He was also running the school´s affairs from there.
Then Parsa police chief SP Ramesh Kharel had directed the schools concerned to stop the bogus attendance by teachers after Aftab Miya, nephew of murdered Sakur Miya, lodged a complaint.
But the accused teachers continued to receive their salaries. Sakur´s relatives had filed complaints with the DEO six months back to stop the salaries.
It was only on Thursday that the DEO finally wrote to the bank to freeze the accounts of the three teachers. “We have stopped their salaries. All the salary they received without attending school will be recovered from them,” said District Education Officer Pramod Kumar Sah.
Locals complain that lack of teachers has greatly hampered teaching at the schools. The school where Sah was principle has over 200 students and only one teacher.
