The top leaders took a decision to this effect during a three-party meeting held Thursday afternoon at Hotel Radisson, Kathmandu.
“The taskforce will study various models for integration and we will discuss them during a three-party meeting on Saturday,” UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal told Republica.
Completion of the integration and rehabilitation of the 19,000-plus Maoist combatants is the term set by NC and UML for the formation of a Maoist-led consensus government.
During the three-party talks at Gorkarna on Wednesday, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had asked the Maoists to complete the integration process in the next two weeks or three if wish to lead the next government. Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had responded positively to the proposal. The leaders had also discussed formation a taskforce for the speedy conclusion of the integration process.
The six-member taskforce will set standard norms, modality, and number of combatants for integration into the state security agencies, and form a calendar to complete the integration process within the agreed timeframe.
“We will present a roadmap for integration and rehabilitation of the combatants at the three-party meeting on Saturday,” said Pun.
