"The prime minister took stock of the progress made by the taskforce during the Special Committee meeting today [Friday]," said JP Gupta, a member on the Special Committee, after the meeting of the Special Committee at Singha Dubar.
Gupta said the taskforce has reached an understanding that the former Maoist fighters, whose integration and rehabilitation is at the center of the four-year old peace process, should be integrated into security forces.
According to Maoist member of the Special Committee Bashaman Pun, the taskforce has discussed four models of integration.
The models, according to Pun, under discussions include: a) setting up a separate force comprised of Maoist combatants, b) integrating them into the national army, c) creating a separate directorate under the Nepal Army by including members of the army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the Maoist PLA, d) creating a separate force accommodating personnel from the army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the Maoist combatants.
According to Pun, the taskforce has reached an understanding that standard norms of security agencies relating to education and recruitment age can be relaxed to facilitate integration of Maoist combatants into the agencies.
