Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil aviation Kripasur Sherpa and Gail Marzetti, head of Department for International Development (DFID)-Nepal jointly inaugurated the new aircraft on Thursday.Umesh Chandra Rai, CEO of Tara Air, said by joining hands with GHT they want to spread the message that trekking is not limited to Everest and Annapurna regions only. "Tara Air network provides access to all the sections of the GHT. That is why have used GHT's logo in our new livery," Rai said, adding that all Tara Air aircraft will have carry GHT logo.
A new Viking aircraft is joining Tara Air's fleet later this month.
Speaking at the program, Minister Sherpa said it was good to note that a privately owned airliner is serving remote hilly areas of Nepal and even promoting Nepal's tourism through tie-up with GHT.
This is Tara Air's second phase of partnership with GHT, according to officials of the airline. Earlier, Tara Air and GHT had inked a deal to promote GHT trails by including trail information on boarding passes apart from putting flyers, posters and route maps in the seat pockets of each aircraft.
Wouter Schalken, tourism sector manager of Samarth-NMDP said that they have re-branded GHT with a new logo. "The tie-up with factory new aircraft will ensure quality and safe tourism," he added.
Similarly, Marzetti highlighted the role of private sector in the development of Nepal's tourism sector. "We have been investing in Nepali tourism sector for the past 15 years. Our main objective is to support livelihoods and create employment through it," she added.
