Sara edged past Sabina Panthi of Armed Police Force (APF) in their league match to advance as the winner of Group B. Sara registered a straight sets 21-15, 22-20 win over Panthi, who also made it to the last four as the group runner-up.
Sara"s younger sister Nangsal saw off Shiksha Shrestha of APF in a similar fashion. She overcame Shrestha 21-15, 22-20 in straight sets to secure berth in the semifinals. Nangsal will face Panthi of APF in the last four while Sara will meet her colleague Amita Giri.
Meanwhile, Deepesh Dhami, Bikash Shrestha and Ratnajit Tamang of Army, and Sajan Krishna Tamrakar of APF secured berths in the men"s singles quarterfinals. Ratnajeet is the brother of women"s singles semifinalists Sara and Nangsal.
Dhami beat Indra Mahata of APF 21-15, 21-18 and Tamrakar edged past Bivek Shrestha of Bhojpur 21-16, 21-8. Tamrakar advanced into the quarterfinals as the winner of Group C and Shrestha of Bhojpur as the group runner-up.
Shrestha of Army saw off Pankaj Chand of APF 21-10, 16-21, 21-13 to finish on top of Group B. Chand entered the quarterfinals as the runner-up from the same group. Tamang beat Bishal Pradhan of APF 21-11, 21-11.
Tamang will meet Chand in the quarterfinal, Tamrakar will play against Sanjeev Khadka of Nepal Police Club, Shrestha of Army will take on Bishnu Katuwal of APF and Shrestha of Bhojpur will lock horns with Dhami of Army.
The event is jointly organized by the Nepal Confederation of Sports and the Nepal Badminton Association.
