KATHMANDU, Aug. 10: Public transport vehicles will not operate tomorrow also following the breakdown of talks between the National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs and the government today.
General Secretary of the Federation, Dolraj Khanal, said that agreement could not be reached in the talks as both sides stuck to their respective stand. [break]The talks were held at the Ministry of Physical Planning, Works and Transport Management in Singha Durbar and lasted for nearly three hours.
"Both sides presented their respective views in the talks and the government side did not seem positive on formation of a separate Ministry of Transport Management. The talks were inconclusive since both sides would not budge from their respective stances," he said.
As such, the public transport vehicles would not be operated tomorrow also as per our prior programme, Khanal added.
He said that the government and the Federation would hold another round of talks tomorrow after both sides carryout further home work.
Talks were held between the government and the transport entrepreneurs again today after the latter stopped operating public transport vehicles from today calling for the fulfillment of their 15-point demands.
Among the demands put forth by the transport entrepreneurs are implementation of the past agreements between the transport entrepreneurs and the government and taking back the authority given to the traffic police to impose fine on public transport vehicles.
Although talks were held late into the night on Thursday, no agreement was reached. All the public transport vehicles stayed off the road today as part of the transport strike.
The talks started at 2 pm today after the government called the transport entrepreneurs for the same.
Hundreds of thousands of people throughout the country, including in the Capital city, were affected by the transport strike called by the transport entrepreneurs and workers.
