Talks between Dr KC and govt begins

KATHMANDU, July 24: Talks between agitating Dr Govinda KC and the government has begun. It is taking place at the Ministry of Education.

According to a source privy to the meeting, the talks are being held under the coordination of Deputy Parliamentary Party Leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Subash Nembang.

Earlier, Nembang had held talks with Kedar Bhakta Mathema and Dharmakanta Baskota of Medical Council as well as Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Education Secretary Khagaraj Baral is representing the government team while Jivan Chhetri, Surendra Bhandari, Om Prakash Aryal, Abhishek Raj Singh and Sumit Pandey are representing Dr KC’s team.

It is learned that the teams will dwell on the agendas including barring from establishing medical colleges in the Kathmandu Valley for 10 years and providing affiliations only to five colleges by one university, among others.

Dr KC has been on a fast-unto-death for the last 25 days demanding reforms in medical education sector. This is his 15th hunger strike.
