Sweet surrender

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Seven songs ready to enchant you make the surrender to music as sweet as possible. Apart from a few, it’s the dance numbers that have bubbled up the past two weeks. Natasha Bedingfield, Robbie Williams featuring Gary Barlow, Madcon featuring Ameerah, 3OH3 and Roll Deep have quite an appreciable performance while the others, Bob Sinclar featuring Ben Onono and Demi Lovato featuring Stanfour work on balancing the sweetness.[break]

Natasha Bedingfield’s “Strip Me” is by far the best release of the last two weeks. Through her 31 second video in her website, Natasha informs her fans of having ‘poured out’ her heart in the song. She says, “Strip Me” is “that moment of truth where you write good music...pour your heart in and share it with everyone.” If she genuinely has and means it then it’s the heart of a lioness that we discover. An attitude of strength and invincibility oozes out of the song.

Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow unite to create the most pleasant sounding “Shame” ever. Subtle and soft, the song leaves a mighty imprint on the very first listen. Both the singers have done full justice to the melody. What gives the song an oomph is the fact that Britain’s most successful song writer and also the lead singer of “Take That”, Gary Barlow, is featured by Williams on the song.

“Green Light” a blend of hip-hop and electronic music splashing all around will hook anyone to the dance floor. With a track as this Roll Deep has every chance of harnessing a good reap. The peppy track is an instant mood lifter and has even had good reviews in the UK.

Also, Madcon featuring Ameerah is an instant addiction. It’s groovilicious, and should make even the heavily traffic laden drive hour an enjoyable one. The moderation of variation from music to vocals is balanced. Tinged with hip-hop and dance floor-type music, this song should appeal to the young generation and hence expected to slowly but surely grab a hot seat in the hit list.

Falling in the same line, 3OH3’s Double Vision is a dance number as well giving you a chance to try out new dance steps. The group in their official website 3oh3music.com, talks about their music not only about being loud. They call their distorted, electronic-pop music rather than being about the trophies and notoriety, about being something larger than themselves: FUN. In “Double Vision”, one can find their expression ringing true. It is a party song people will have a good time with, if not see it mounting the charts.

On “Rainbow of Love” Ben Onono lends his talent to DJ Bob Sinclar, the star of clubs worldwide. The fast and funky track is about the rainbow colored feelings that one gets when one looks at the person s/he loves. With the Jamaican flavor that Bob sprinkles, the track succeeds in evoking the sensation of being in a beach party. Though good for the dance floor, the track is unlikely to get much higher in the charts for the monotony in its beats.

As the title, “Wouldn’t Change a Thing” itself suggests, the song’s about being happy with what one has, even after realizing that it isn’t perfect: be it being driven insane, or not being able to be mad despite it all. Though Lovato has tried to insert a pop-rock ting the repetitive lyrics cause the song to slip into more of a pop mood. As she features Stanfour in the song, Lovato must have discovered by now that there are still some gaps she needs to fill with a creative input.

Not much of a variety this time around, yet listening to Natasha Bedingfield’s “Strip Me” and Robbie Williams featuring Gary Barlow’s “Shame” should make up for the loss.
