Suvash Darnal remembered

KATHMANDU: Dalit activists, journalists and family members on Thursday marked the second death anniversary of late Suvash Kumar Darnal amidst a function in the capital. Darnal, who died in a road accident two years ago in Washington DC, USA, was a prominent Dalit right activist, journalist and a thinker.



He had been awarded Stanford University´s prestigious Fellowship Program on Democracy and Development during the accident. People remembered him as forerunner of the Dalit movement and an independent Dalit leader. [break]



Speaking at the function, Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Paudel said Darnal had worked to improve the lives of Nepal´s Dalits. He also assured to issue a postal ticket in Darnal´s name. Palpa based journalist Madhav Aryal, Biratnagar based journalist Bijaya Mishra and family of late Man Bahadur Biswokarma, who contributed to Dalit movement, were awarded at the function.
