Upon entering you are greeted by a friendly host. Like in any traditional Japanese eatery you’ve the option of either sitting on the floor or you can always drage a chair. Since all dishes are prepared fresh from scratch, the expected wait time can be anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes depending on the order.
For starters you could try the prawn tempura, a mouthwatering delight made of deep fried prawn in a batter of flour. Every bite reminds you of fresh ingredients used at the restaurant, most of which like Wasabi, Nori and Dashi have been flown in from Japan thus creating a unique flavor.

For vegetarians, a stir fry dish called Yasai Itane, is highly recommended. It consists of different vegetables stir fried to perfection in a mild sauce. Along with the appetizers order Sake, Japanese wine made from fermented rice.
Depending on the choice of food and the weather you can either drink it hot or chilled. Hard liquors are also served at Furu Sato along with wine and Japanese beer. (Asahi beer)
For the main course the Japanese Bento box is a must try. It is a lunch box served with a variety of foods. The box contains sticky rice, eggplant chilly (agedashi nasu), boiled spinach with various spices (gomaeo), ginger flavored pork (buta shogayuki), deep fried chicken, lightly spiced (chicken karaage), a piece of grilled fish, and two kinds of Japanese pickles (tsukemono).
The most enticing culinary delight in the restaurant are the various kinds of sushi prepared to perfection by an experienced chef. The common ingredient across all different kinds of sushi is sushi rice (shari), fish (neta), seaweed (nori).
The variety at Furu Sato arises from different fillings, toppings, condiments, and their preparation. The same ingredients are assembled, creating a very different final result.
Try the Nigri Zushi, a special dish, consisting of small mounds of vinegared rice, topped with two pieces of tuna, salmon, mackerel and shrimp served with Wasabi on an authentic Japanese platter. Another delicacy not to be missed is the Ten Maki, a hand rolled vinegared rice and seaweed roll stuffed with shrimp tempura, again served with wasabi on the side. Both just melt in your mouth.
While a plate of Sushi can cost anywhere from Rs 300- 600 depending on its content, all prices are inclusive of service charges. Since sushi requires effort and needs to be prepared with care it’s bound to cost a bit more than other dishes that can be easily prepared.
Furu Sato has been in operation for the past fourteen years and is popular among those that frequent Japanese food in Kathmandu.
