Surya Nepal Central Open tees off Monday

KATHMANDU, Sept 27: Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2015-16 will kick off with Surya Nepal Central Open at the Gokarna Golf Club, Kathmandu on Monday. The four-day event to be played over 72 holes will conclude on Thursday. There will be a cut applied after 2 rounds (36 holes). Only top 21 pros and ties will make their journey to the final 36 holes along with the amateurs making the pro cut.

Total of 31 professional golfers will test their skills for total prize money of Rs 540,750. Winner of the event will bag a purse of Rs 100,000, the runner -up will earn Rs 63,000 and the 3rd position holder will get Rs 45,000. Top 21 places and ties will earn prize money.Defending champion Shivaram Shrestha, along with Sanjay Lama, Umesh Nagarkoti, and Rabi Khadka are the strong contenders for title.

Newly turned professionals Bikash Bogati and Shiva Ram Poudel will debut in this event.

Most participants had a practice round Sunday.

Rabindra Man Shrestha, president of NPGA said, "The golf tour couldn't start due to devastating earthquake and then heavy monsoon. Now that the rains have slowed down, it is the right time to begin with competitive golf. I extend by sincere gratitude to Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd for their tremendous support for the development of the game. I hope the boys will produce some low scores this week."
