MYAGDI, Nov 16: The survey for much talked about project that aims to provide internet access to all VDCs in Myagdi district has begun.
According to Local Development Officer (LDO) of Myagdi, Chirajanjibi Paudel, a survey team has been mobilized to determine proper geographical locations for installing towers and equipment for the project. The survey has begun after Rural Telecom under the Nepal Telecom Authority and Myagdi Overseas Nepalese Association (MONA) expressed their commitment to helping Myagdi become a model district in terms of internet accessibility.
Internet prices likely to go up from mid-July
Funds and required equipment will be arranged after the survey team submits its report, according to him.
The cost of expanding internet service in the district has been estimated at around Rs 20 million.
As per the office of District Development Committee (DDC), a digital survey will be carried out under the initiative of Magsaysay award winner Mahabir Pun.
Last year, the Nepal Telecom Fund had pledged to cover 50 per cent of the total cost of the project.
Pun informed that Nepal government has chosen Myagdi for the expansion of optical fiber as part of its policy to establish broadband in rural areas.
“I'll develop Myagdi into a model district in the area of information and technology. I urge people from all walks of life to support the initiative,” said Pun.
